Our role is to connect employers with education to prepare young people for the world of work and informing and empowering young people about the employment opportunities within the region and the learning pathways to get there.

DYW at Portobello High School supports staff and young people at Portobello High School by:

· Supporting staff and careers advisors to liaise with employers and partners (higher education, further education, training organisations, apprenticeship providers etc.).

· Organising themed career education events in the school around topics of pupil interest, suggested by the subject offer in the school or to support curriculum delivery, bringing in employers and the world of work into the school.

· Supporting delivery of S6 PSE provision by organising partners to deliver talks (UCAS, College, Apprenticeships, Careers Panels etc.)

· Delivering subject choice events by having pupils meet employers highlighting how certain subject choices lead to given career paths

· Ensuring Portobello High School attendance at DYW centrally organised events such as sector specific events, careers fairs etc.

· Disseminating relevant offers from employers (work experience, insight events, mentoring support etc.) to parents/ carers, pupils and staff using channels such as email, TV screens in the school and newsletters.

· Collecting pupils’ career interest and widening participation information and matching that to relevant events and supports.

Bláthnaid is based in F35, co-located with the SDS careers advisors with whom she works very closely. She is always happy to answer signposting queries from staff, parents or pupils.
