This year, Primary 7 pupils will visit the High School on Wednesday 22nd June and Thursday 23rd June.

To help us settle them in, all pupils in S2 – S6 should report at 9.30am for registration on Wednesday 22nd June. Thank you for your cooperation.

The School community is shocked and saddened by the tragic and untimely death of one of our S6 pupils, Calum Veitch.

Calum was an able student and an extremely talented sportsman.  He will be remembered for his kindness and his warm and open personality, which made him an extremely popular and respected young man here at Portobello High School.

The school and the local community have lost a very special person. We are deeply saddened by this loss.  Our thoughts are with his family.

We are delighted to announce that Isla McEwan, Kyra Skellett and Freya Hesse have been accepted for places at the Junior Academy of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow. This will involve them travelling to Glasgow every Saturday  for music tuition, ensemble work and theory classes.

Congratulations also to Michael McGeary in S6, who took part in the RSAMD junior department guitar competition and was awarded 1st place. As part of his prize, he has been offered a free place to study with the world renowned Croatian guitarist Ana Vidovic at the 3rd Classical Guitar Retreat at the Cathedral of the Isles on the island of Cumbrae.

There has been a recent increase in the numbers of measles cases in Scotland and the rest of the UK, mainly affecting teenagers and younger adults.  Many of the cases have been associated with recent travel abroad especially to France.  A number of current measles outbreaks have been reported from France, Belgium and Switzerland.

Measles is highly infectious and can be a dangerous illness.  It spreads easily in schools, universities and summer camps.  Those who are not fully immunised with two doses of MMR are most at risk of developing measles.
