Aims and Philosophy

  • To allow all pupils to achieve their mathematical potential at whatever level they are studying.
  • To engage pupils in a variety of ways to embrace the study of mathematics
  • For pupils to make the link between mathematics and its need in everyday life.

S1/2
Pupils cover courses at Curriculum for Excellence Levels 1, 2 or 3. Topics include – Number,  Angles, Algebra, Information Handling, Decimals, Percentages, Fractions,  Measurement, Symmetry, Coordinates, Shape, Volume, Ratio and Sequences

S3
S3 is the culmination of the Broad General Education during which pupils continue to develop their skills and lay down firm foundations for learning towards National Qualifications in S4.

Higher: Topics include – The Straight Line, Functions, Recurrence Relations, Differentiation, Quadratic Theory, The Circle, Integration, Trigonometry, Vectors, Further Differentiation and Integration, Logs and Exponentials and the Wave Function

Advanced Higher: Topics include – Partial Fractions, The Binomial Theorem, Differentiation and Integration, Complex Numbers, Further Differentiation and Integration, Proof , Sequences and Series, Matrices, Vectors, Further Sequences and SeriesEdit
