International Science Festival Sci-Ku Competition

CONGRATULATIONS

Ryan Gilhooly, is a winner in the Edinburgh International Science Festival Sci-Ku Competition!  Ryan’s Sci-Ku about space has won him third prize for his poem:

Hammer and feather

Deceives the wielder with touch

Both fall simultaneously

There was over 1,300 science haikus from all over Scotland. The judges from Edinburgh City Libraries, the City of Literature Trust, and climate scientist and poet Rachel McCarthy had a very difficult task in deciding the finalists and prize winners. One of the judges said:

One of the only haiku concerned with experimentation we’ve seen, and presents a complex thought in merely 3 lines”

Also awarded a prize was Alex Mclean. His vivid and imaginative poem was very highly commended by the judges:

Rotating planets

Jewellery of the galaxy

A chain of daisies
