We are delighted to let you know that the Planning Committee approved the application for the new Portobello High School at their meeting on 23 February 2011.
Since the planning application was submitted, the school has continued to work closely with the design team on the detailed designs for the schools and this has included considering the furniture and IT requirements of the new school building.
Over 30 expressions of interest from building contractors have being received. These contractors have now been asked to provide more detailed information that will be assessed and a short list of contractors agreed who will then be asked to tender for the project.
A specific requirement of one of the conditions of the planning application is that an archaeological investigation of Portobello Park should take place before construction work starts. This will involve excavation, analysis and reporting to provide full site records. This is likely to take place in August to minimise disruption to users.
