For pupils returning to school for S5/6 there is a wide curricular choice, broadened by the opportunity to take courses at local colleges. Choices will be based on interests, abilities and previous performance in SQA National Qualifications.
In S5, pupils are expected to study five subjects providing progression from those studied in S3/4. The courses offered lead to National or Higher levels of the National Qualifications.
More vocational options are on offer including Game Design, Childcare and Retail. Links have been made with Edinburgh College and Queen Margaret University through the creation of Academies for Health & Social Care and Creative Industries.
In S6 pupils must choose a minimum of 4 subjects. They may extend and deepen their studies by taking some subjects at Advanced Higher level. All pupils must include a skills development/wider acheivement subject in their course. Options include Art, PE, Music, Philosophy, Fashion and Textiles Food Technology and Debating.
Personal and Social Development of the individual remains a priority within the school and a programme of Personal and Social Education is compulsory for both year groups.
