S5/6

For pupils returning to school for S5/6 there is a wide curricular choice, broadened by the opportunity to take courses at local colleges.  Choices will be based on interests, abilities and previous performance in SQA National Qualifications.

In S5, pupils are expected to study five subjects providing progression from those studied in S3/4.  The courses offered lead to Intermediate or Higher levels of the National Qualifications.

In S6 pupils normally choose between three and five subjects depending on the level of study. They may extend and deepen their studies by taking some subjects at Advanced Higher level. All pupils must also include a non-examinable ‘minority’ subject in their course. Options include Art, PE, Music, Philosophy, Mandarin, Fashion and Textiles, Food Technology, Environmental Issues, Statistics and Creative Writing.

Personal and Social Development of the individual remains a priority within the school and a programme of Personal and Social Education is compulsory for both year groups.
