Pupils in S1 will follow the Curriculum for Excellence.
Curriculum for Excellence takes a fresh approach to what, how and where our pupils learn. It aims to raise standards, improve knowledge and develop skills, while closing the gap between the lowest and highest performers.

The curriculum is delivered through learning in 8 curriculum areas:
- Expressive arts
- Health and wellbeing
- Religious and moral education
- Social studies
All staff have a responsibility to develop, reinforce and extend learning in the following areas.
New national qualifications are being developed to reflect the changes to the curriculum.
Interdisciplinary learning features in the S1 curriculum with many opportunities available throughout the year, including the project ‘Scotland and its People.’
