National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland

Michael Watson, an S4 student, has been accepted into the prestigious National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland. It has just been announced that they will be appearing in the Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms season on Friday, 5th August.

If you are in London and would like to go along to hear the cream of Scottish jazz along with soloists like Iain Ballamy saxophone and Liane Carroll piano/vocals as well as our own Michael Watson, then please follow this link:

Our Liibrary will be open for private study as much as possible during the exam period – (between 8.30 a.m and 4.30 p.m)

There will be some occasions when it is not available because of classes or a lunch club (it is unavailable Monday & Wednesday lunch).

If anyone wants to check availability on certain days they should see Miss Thow

Once the Library is full additional students will need to go elsewhere.

  • If you have a break between exam papers please only come to the Library if you have revision to do.  It shouldn’t be used as a social space before your second paper.
  • If you are using the library during exams please ensure you have revision with you and you are mindful of other students using the space.

Any queries about using the library during exams see Miss Thow

Portobello Library is looking for volunteers in S5 to help out with their Summer Reading Challenge during the summer holidays.  The volunteer positions are flexible and can fit in with holidays and other commitments.  This is a nationally recognised scheme and would be fantastic for college, University and job applications.  Duties may include scheme administration, helping with drop-in activites and events, updating social media and visiting primary schools to launch the challenge.

For more information and to express interest please see Miss Thow (Library) before you go on exam leave

REMINDER – School is closed for Public Holiday on Monday, 18 April
