Blood Donation Day

The Blood Donation Centre would like to thank all pupils and staff who attended the session last week. 62 people visited the mobile unit, 14 of these being new donors and 31 pints of blood was successfully collected. This was considered to be a very good contribution and they look forward to their return in September.

New Rugby Shirts From Parent Council


For the last 10 or so years Portobello High School S1/2 pupils have played in what can only be described as threadbare and well very worn rugby shirts. This year, with the generous donation made by the parent council for school rugby shirts, not only does the team look fantastic in their new outfit but ever since they have donned them they have played brilliantly to beat all comers to date.


Many thanks, from the team, to the parent council for transforming the image of the team and as a result contributing to the performance on the field as well.

Eco Schools Living Case Study Event

eco-celebrationOn Tuesday the 8th March 2011 the school hosted a “Living Case Study Event” for Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS). Delegates (primary and secondary teachers and representatives from Eco Schools and the Scottish Government) came from all over Scotland to learn from Portobello about their journey through the Eco Schools Programme.

S6 pupil visits CERN

James Parr-Burman, S6, was one of five pupils selected from schools across Scotland to join an official Scottish Government visit to the CERN.


Mike Russell, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, led the visit and was accompanied by Professor Anne Glover, Chief Scientific Advisor to Scottish Government. CERN is the world class particle physics research establishment and home of the Large Hadron Collider.
