At Portobello High School we are committed to creating a positive learning environment for all our pupils, allowing them to reach their full potential. We believe that each day needs to start well and that means arriving on time for school.
School starts at 8.30am. A rota has been drawn up where senior staff will be on duty speaking to pupils who arrive late to school over the month of August. The issue of punctuality will also be highlighted in House Assemblies over the coming week. We want to send a very clear message to pupils that we expect them all to arrive on time. After August if a pupil arrives late into school and is spoken to by a senior member of staff they will be issued with a detention.
This session we will be making changes to our Target Setting procedures for S5/6 and extending the process into S4. The aim of this initiative is to help pupils to achieve their best possible exam results by helping them to set targets for their learning and advising them as to how best to work towards achieving this.
Target Setting sheets have been inserted into student planners and assemblies will be held for pupils in S4/5/6 on Monday 22nd August to launch the process and explain how it will operate. I would invite you, as parents/carers of S4/5/6, to discuss the process with your son/daughter and look at the Target Setting sheets in the planners.
There will be an opportunity for S5/6 pupils to come into school to be re-coursed if it is necessary following publication of their SQA results. Mrs Dobson, Depute Head, will be available in school on the dates/times noted below:
- Wednesday, 10th August, 10.00am – 3.00pm.
- Thursday, 11th August, 12.30 – 2.30pm.
