Congratulations to both the U13 and U14 football teams after fantastic winning performances in the finals of the Lothian Cup on Saturday the 7th of May at Forrester High School.
The U13s were first to play and their opponents were Balerno High School. The game was a very competitive one and there was some fantastic football played by both teams. However, Portobello took the lead early on and after the first goal Portobello pushed on to dominate the rest of the game creating many chances through intricate play. The game finished 4 – 0 to Portobello with goals from Ross King(2), Sean Gilroy and Jordan Hunter. Many thanks also to Lewis Grant and Jamie Todd for coaching the U13s this season and helping guide them to success in the League, League Cup and Scottish Cup.
The U14s were also playing their final at the same venue after the U13s’ game. Their opponents were Firrhill High School. The game was predicted to be very close as in a recent league fixture the two teams drew 1 – 1. From the outset both teams came out and matched each other with some really good phases of attacking and defensive play. The game was very tight until the deadlock was broken by Portobello. From that point onwards Portobello controlled the game demonstrating fantastic flowing play. The game ended 5 – 0 to Portobello with goals from Jack Smith, Blair Kemp, Declan Sands, Ethan Nicolson and Aaron Murriell. Many thanks to Jack Morrison for coaching the U14s this season and helping guide the team to a string of successful results in both League and Cup fixtures.
A special thanks also to all the parents for their continued support throughout the year, transporting and supporting all of the teams.
