Level 1 Swim Teaching

Portobello High School, Edinburgh Leisure and Active Schools worked together to provide the opportunity for 12 senior pupils to complete a free Level 1 swim teaching award during the February school holiday.

They were thrown in at the deep end with 30 primary school children attending free swim lessons twice a day for the duration of the course. Louise Findlay who was leading the Level 1 qualification said “All the pupils from Portobello High School who attended the Scottish Swimming UKCC Level 1 Teaching of Aquatics course passed with flying colours. They all applied themselves fully to the classroom theory sessions, the poolside practical teaching sessions and the completion of their logbook. They were a joy to work with”.

Not only have the senior pupils benefited from this project but at least 60 children learned to swim or developed their strokes during the week. One parent said “I just want to say a big thank you for organising the swimming lessons. It was a fantastic idea and my daughter really enjoyed her swimming. I hope you will do this again”.

This project was funded by Awards 4 All and we have also funded 2 coaches to complete their badminton Level 1 and 2 of our sports ambassadors to do their football Level 1.
