Industrial Action, Wednesday 30 November 2011

All education establishments in Edinburgh will be closed to children and young people on Wednesday 30 November. This decision has been taken by the Council because of the planned widespread industrial action by a number of public sector trade unions that day.

 

Marilyn MacLaren Convenor of Children & Families said: “The health and safety of our children and young people is our highest priority and as we have significant information which leads us to believe that many teachers and staff across the Council are likely to be involved in strike action, and with regret we have taken the decision to close all Council schools, pre-school, community centres to children and young people and adult learners on Wednesday 30 November. While we recognise that closures such as this causes difficulties early notification gives parents and carers time to make alternate arrangements for the day.”

All establishments will be open as normal on Thursday 1 December.
