S1 – CfE: ‘Computing Science contexts for developing technological skills and knowledge’  (1 period per week / full year

  • Safe and responsible use of ICT
  • Programming using Scratch
  • Multimedia Authoring, including image, audio and video editing
  • Business Contexts using technology

 

S2 – CfE: ‘Computing Science contexts for developing technological skills and knowledge’ (1 period per week / full year)

  • Programming
  • Computer systems
  • Web authoring
  • Games design
  • Animation

 

S3 – CfE: ‘Computing Science contexts for developing technological skills and knowledge’ (3 periods per week / full year)  

 

The S3 Computing Science course builds on the experience of S1/2 curriculum and prepares pupils for further study of Computing at National 3-5 level in S4.  The course addresses CfE level 4 outcomes for Computer Science.  Areas of study in S3 include, but not limited to:

 

  • Understanding Computer Systems
  • Programming
  • Database Systems
  • Website Development with HTML
  • Environmental Impact of Technology

 

 

S4/5/6 – National 4 / 5 Computing Science

  • Both levels of study have 2 core units:
    • Software Design and Development
    • Information Systems Design and Development
  • The National 5 Course award is 60% based on a written exam and 40% based on internal assignment.
  • The National 4 Course award is all internally assessed and includes the successful completion of  a Value Added Unit.

S5/6 – Higher Computing Science

  • Both levels of study are made up of 2 units of work:
    • Software Design and Development
    • Information System Design and Development
  • Course award is 60% based on a written exam and 40% based on internal assignment.

S6 – Advanced Higher Computing

  • Units: Software Development, Computing Project, Artificial Intelligence
  • Course award is 60% based on a written exam and 40% based on the project.

 

 

S5/6 – National Progression Award in Digital Media Editing.

  • Units: Still Images Editing, Audio Editing, Video Editing
  • Course award is Pass or Fail based purely on coursework.
  • Available at levels 4, 5 and 6

 

S5/6 – National Progression Award in Game Design.

  • Units: Design, Media Assets, Development.
  • Course award is Pass or Fail based purely on coursework.
  • Available at levels 4, 5 and 6
